(Training) Becoming an AmeriCorps VISTA Project Sponsor

VISTA is an anti-poverty program designed to provide needed resources to nonprofit organizations and public agencies to develop or expand initiatives designed to empower individuals and communities to make change. There are approximately 8,000 members, 18 years or older from a diverse range of backgrounds, serving annually at 4,500 sites across the 50 United States and in all U.S. territories.

Nonprofit organizations, Native American Tribes, institutions of higher education, and state, city, and local government agencies that seek to build or expand an anti-poverty project are eligible to apply.

AmeriCorps VISTA is partnering with other federal agencies to increase access to the Child Tax Credit. AmeriCorps members in VISTA will support efforts in low-income communities to ensure families gain access to the tax credit.

This webinar with Meg Ansara, Director of AmeriCorps Vista, will show you how you can apply to become a Project Sponsor and get the crucial support you need.

(Training) Becoming a CTC Navigator and Non-filer & CTC Update Portals Walk-through

The 2021 Child Tax Credit (CTC) expansion provides a historic opportunity to reduce child poverty in the United States by more than 40 percent.

Your efforts to help people get advance CTC payments are essential. Many people will need help to understand their eligibility and to use GetCTC.org. At the time of the first training, GetCTC, a mobile-friendly way to sign up for the CTC, had not yet launched. GetCTC.org, created in partnership with the White House and U.S. Department of Treasury, is available until November 15 and is our recommended tool.

Navigators are trusted, community-based guides that help marginalized people get their payments. They can answer questions, help people sign up for advance CTC payments, provide space and technology, or help address other barriers can include helping with email address, bank accounts, or providing mailing address to use.

(Training) 2021 Stimulus Checks Outreach: Hard-to-Reach Populations

Last year, hundreds of organizations engaged in the vitally important and difficult task of helping households who don’t usually file a tax return get their stimulus checks.

Today, there are still eligible people who haven’t gotten their money and may now risk missing out on three rounds of stimulus checks. These include some of the hardest-to-reach people who need direct support. Outreach to families with immigrants, people experiencing homelessness, and people with limited internet access is also needed as these populations may also qualify for more money through 2021 tax credit expansions like the Child Tax Credit.

Along with our guests from Code for America and Tax Help Colorado, this training covers how to:
– Use our new outreach toolkit to reach out in your community
– Build partnerships to expand your impact
– Assist people to successfully file a tax return even if you aren’t a tax preparer
– Navigate outreach barriers and challenges

(Training) Rideshare Taxes: Resources and Q&A

Tax preparation for rideshare drivers can be difficult to navigate. Taxpayers often do not know that they are self-employed and are not aware of the impact driving full time or as a “side hustle” can have on their tax returns.

The Get It Back Campaign and CASH Campaign of Maryland created Roadmap to Rideshare Taxes, a comprehensive tax resource, to support this population. The training covers:

  • Ways to use this resource
  • Specific tools to assist drivers
  • Promotional materials that your VITA/TCE site can use

We recommend watching last year’s training, Rideshare Taxes: What Your Tax Volunteers Should Know for the basics.

This training features Francesca Jean-Baptiste, Director of Tax Partnerships at the CASH Campaign of Maryland.
